Navigating the Gil Market in Final Fantasy XIV

FFXIV’s economy is a complex beast with many facets. This article will provide some tips for how to navigate it and make a steady flow of in-game Gil. The simplest way to earn Gil is by selling items on the Market Board. Whether you’re selling gear, mounts like the FFXIV Aithon or materials, this method is quick and easy.

Retainer Ventures

Retainers in Final Fantasy XIV do much more than simply sell items on the market board for Gil. They also go on ventures, which send them out into Eorzea to find specific items that can be sold for profit. They can be sent on three types of ventures, ranging from targeted to exploration. Targeted ventures (such as Hunting, Mining, and Botany) cost one venture currency to undertake, while Exploration ones cost two.

Each retainer has a class associated with it that dictates what sort of materials it brings back from the world. For instance, if you have a Retainer with the Disciple of War or Magic class, it will bring weaponry and crafting materials, while a Fisher retainer brings fishing items. Assigning the retainer to multiple classes will ensure that it can provide various items for sale on the market board. This will make it easier to earn a large amount of Gil effortlessly and quickly.

Treasure Maps

In FFXIV, players will find themselves spending millions of Gil each day if they’re not careful. This is mostly due to the fact that core gameplay has more small Gil sinks built in than a typical non-RMT MMO, such as the cost of teleporting back and forth between Old Sharlayan and Radz-at-Han.

In addition to dungeons and raid boss chests that award Gil, players can also earn the currency by using the Duty Finder’s Treasure Map Roulette, where they can run random content and gain experience, seals, and, of course, Gil.

These maps usually include a decent amount of loot and, if they’re sold on the market board, can make the heroes a lot of Gil. In Patch 6.3, for example, the Time-Worn Opito Toro Skin map will sell for around 80k and the Grip Gels that can be gathered from it are going for more than 30k each. This is one of the fastest and safest methods of making a large amount of Gil outside of endgame activity grinding.

Gathering Materials

The best way to make gil in how to make gil ffxiv is to study the market board and identify niche markets. Having a lot of gil can also give you the freedom to play your character however you want, including teleporting around Eorzea at will and stockpiling gear to prepare for higher-tier content.

Having leveled gatherers is another great way to make gil, as you can send them on quick expeditions that will yield items worth a lot of money. For example, prisms are a common reward from optional content and sell for a lot of money on the market board.

If you notice that certain items aren’t selling, consider undercutting their price by 1 Gil. This may cause other players to follow suit and the market will revert to its previous value. This is a risky strategy but can be an effective one.

Crafting

As you level your crafting classes (Armorer, Goldsmith, and Alchemist), you’ll be able to make a decent amount of Gil through completing Treasure Maps or selling the items you craft for profit. Of course, the better your items are, the more they’ll sell for.
The Beast Tribe quests in FFXIV also offer up a good amount of Gil, Tomestones, and Ventures as rewards. Completing these quests can help you earn a lot of Gil in one sitting, and many players are willing to buy the hard-to-get dyes that are offered up as purchasable rewards from these quests.

Then there are the players who are looking to furnish their houses and have a good demand for furnishings that can be crafted at a low level. These kinds of players are a steady source of income for a well-leveled Carpenter.
